Long before synthetic fragrances ruled the market, India had its own centuries-old perfumery tradition — the attar, born in Kannauj, the perfume capital of India. Today, two remarkable brands are reviving this art: Boond Fragrances and Raahi Parfums. At INSE Beauty, we are honoured to carry both as part of our Indian Perfumery collection.

Boond Fragrances: A Drop of Heritage
Boond — meaning 'drop' in Hindi — was founded by siblings Krati and Varun during the 2021 pandemic lockdowns in Kannauj. The brand holds the Geographical Indicator (GI) Tag by the Government of India for authentic Kannauj Perfume. Every fragrance is handcrafted using the ancient Deg-Bhapka distillation method — alcohol-free, chemical-free, and of extraordinary botanical purity. Packaging is made from 100% recycled handmade paper, with a handwritten poem tucked inside each box.

Raahi Parfums: Seven Generations of Fragrance Mastery
Raahi Parfums carries a fragrance house lineage going back to 1818, now led by the seventh-generation Shubham and Divy Gupta. Their flagship Mitti Attar — capturing the magical scent of first rain on dry earth — is one of the most evocative fragrances ever created. No alcohol. No synthetics. Just pure, living fragrance distilled the same way their ancestors did it over 200 years ago.
What Is Attar and Why Should You Try It?
Attar is a natural perfume oil distilled from botanicals into a carrier oil base. Unlike alcohol-based perfumes, attars are long-lasting, skin-warming, and deeply personal — they evolve with your body's warmth throughout the day. In Ayurveda, attars are considered therapeutic, used to balance the doshas and calm the mind. Read more in our guide to Indian Perfumery on the INSE Beauty blog.
